Spend 20 hours in 7 days, outside & unplugged.

 

A new week is coming and we challenge you to live it - outside & unplugged. Here's how our challenge works:

Starting whenever you'd like, consider yourself employed to a new part time job - where you are the boss and make your own schedule. 

The Challenge: Find and spend 20 hours outside & disconnected from screens (phones, computers, TVs... etc.) in a 7 day period. Either challenge yourself or a friend. Reach 20 hours or get the most in 7 days... and you win. 

Why? We've developed a societal norm around an unhealthy lifestyle - living our lives inside & staring at screens. In fact, the majority of us average less than 10 hours a week outside, and more than 10 hours in a single day in front of our screens (computers, phones & TV).

We are on track to spend about 5% of our lives outside, while we evolved from living 99% of it outside. Also, with our 40 hour work week, and average of 50 hours of sleep in a week (7 hours a night) we are occupying nearly all of our free time with screen time. 

Its apparent... we are out of balance. And thats why we developed this challenge;  to share our experiences of a reformed life firsthand; the joy, improved health, increased creativity & countless life lessons we've discovered from spending more of life outside & unplugged.  We believe that it is a critical element of a healthy lifestyle and we hope this challenge helps you find that too. 

How? Get creative, make the time or find it in between. If needed, schedule time each day. If not, just shoot to spend about 3 hours each day outside & unplugged. Log at least an hour a day and keep track of the hours to help build & sustain that muscle. If the phone must tag along ...  find ways to distance it - in a bag or in do not disturb mode. Studies have shown, that simply having a phone in close proximity, reduces cognitive abilities.
